Ci siamo impoveriti – I codici di SMWS

Come qualcuno già  saprà. la filiale italiana della SMWS (Scotch Malt Whisky Society, di proprietà  di Glenmorangie Plc) non esiste più. Senza entrare nel merito delle motivazioni, che tra l’altro non conosco se non molto superficialmente,  è onestamente un peccato. Oltre che per un motivo “territoriale”, devo dire infatti che i prodotti sono ottimi e a un giusto prezzo (non mi è mai capitato di trovare imbottigliamenti scadenti).

Quindi mi è venuto in mente di scrivere due righe per almeno spiegare come individuare la distilleria dall’etichetta, che alla prima occhiata potrebbe sembrare misteriosa.

L’etichetta riporta due codici D:C. La D è il codice della distilleria, mentre il C è un progressivo che indica quanti cask sono stati imbottigliati per quella distilleria.

Facendo un esempio se abbiamo  3.2 significa che e’ il secondo cask imbottigliato della distilleria 3 (Bowmore). La bottiglia riporta poi un nome “mnemonico” per indicare sinteticamente le caratteristiche organolettiche del prodotto come ad esempio, Puff candy on a tropical island, Toffee apples and scented cedar.
